Orchids

Windowsill Orchid

I have a pretty extensive houseplant collection.  It makes the house feel very alive to me.  After summering outside, I bring them back into the house when frost look imminent.  The cooler temperatures many times trigger a bloom spike on my orchids.  Here is one called Zygopetalum maculatum.  It has a wonderful scent, reminiscent of hyacinths. I bought this at Trader Joe's a few years ago!  For these photographs, this was the set up:

Nikon D800E camera;  Zeiss Makro-Planar 100 mm macro lens; 8 images (8 sec exposure, f/11, existing light, white paper backdrop) stacked in Helicon Focus software.
