I came upon this scene about 20 min south of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Swain County, NC, near Bryson City. I just kept saying to myself, what were they thinking? The bizarre part was that right next to this was a tourist gazebo, almost as if they were showcasing something really great. I wasn't sure if it was a purposeful, but misguided hedge against erosion or just incomprehensible disregard for Nature. I thought it was disgraceful. Of course, much of North Carolina is sublimely beautiful.
